The plan
Junk removal advertising is a set of channels, not one ad
Junk removal advertising works when every place a customer might see you points the same way. Someone clearing out a garage does not think in channels. They search on a phone, glance at the map, look at a few websites, maybe notice a truck at a neighbor’s curb, and call the one that looks ready to show up. Your job is to be that one in as many of those moments as you can pay for.
Junk Removal Advertising is an independent referral service, not a marketing agency. When you send the form, your details go to an independent marketing agency that prepares any proposal and does any work.
Most haulers build their advertising one piece at a time: a listing here, a Facebook post there, a run of flyers when things are slow. The pieces rarely talk to each other. A real plan starts with the foundation that costs little and pays for years, then adds paid ads where they make sense:
- Your Google Business Profile, the listing on Google Maps. See the Google Business Profile guide for junk removal.
- A website built for phones, with your services, your towns and a quote form. See junk removal website design.
- Search engine optimization, so your pages earn a place in Google’s results without paying per click. See junk removal SEO.
- Paid ads: Google Local Services Ads, charged per lead, and Google Ads search campaigns, charged per click. See junk removal leads and Google Ads for junk removal.
- Offline: truck wraps, yard signs, door hangers and the people who send you work, such as real estate agents and property managers.
How these fit together for your town, your trucks and your budget is what a junk removal marketing plan sets out. The rest of this page takes the channels one at a time.

Maps
Start with the listing on Google Maps
When someone types junk removal near me, a map with a few businesses under it often shows near the top. Those businesses come from Google Business Profile. Google says its local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and popularity, and that there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. What a business can do is keep its profile complete and accurate and earn genuine reviews.
Google’s own guidelines decide a lot of what goes wrong. Your listing’s name should be your real business name as it appears on your trucks, your website and your invoices, with no extra keywords stuffed in. Pick as few categories as you need, the most specific ones that fit. Keep one profile per location. If you work from a real address and also drive out to customers, Google lets you enter both your address and your service area, so keep the address and add the towns you cover.
Reviews matter, and the rules around them are strict. Google’s Maps policy does not allow reviews that were paid for, posted at the business’s request from several accounts, or bought with a discount or a free pickup. It also does not allow review gating, where only happy customers are asked. Since October 21, 2024, the FTC’s Consumer Reviews and Testimonials Rule has also barred rewards for reviews that must express a particular sentiment, positive or negative. The plain way is the right one: ask every customer for an honest review and offer nothing for it.
Paid ads
Pay per lead or pay per click
Paid advertising for haulers comes in two main shapes on Google, and they are billed differently.
| Local Services Ads | Google Ads search campaigns | |
|---|---|---|
| What you pay for | Leads: calls and messages through the ad | Clicks on your ad |
| Where it shows | A unit shown prominently in Google Search results for the services and areas you chose | Ad positions on the results page, decided by Ad Rank in Google’s ad auctions |
| What decides it | Eligibility for your trade and area; Google says regularly missing calls or messages may affect ad ranking | Ad Rank: your bid, your ad quality, the competition and the context of the search |
| What you control | The services you offer and the areas you choose | Keywords, towns, ad text, landing page, a daily budget you can change any time |
Local Services Ads leads arrive as phone calls and messages, and Google says you pay only for leads related to your business and the services you offer. Google also says that if you regularly fail to answer calls or respond to messages, your ad ranking may be affected. Eligibility varies by trade and area, so check yours in Google’s Local Services Ads sign-up before you plan around it.
Search campaigns give you more control. You choose the searches, the towns and the daily budget, and Google’s Quality Score rates each keyword on expected clickthrough rate, ad relevance and landing page experience. A sharp ad that sends people to a page about the exact job they searched for is a good way to waste less. The detail is on the Google Ads for junk removal page.

Search
SEO and a website that books the job
Google says it costs nothing to appear in its search results and that it does not accept payment to rank a site higher. Every visit from an ordinary result is a visit you did not pay for per click. That is why the website and the pages on it are worth getting right before you pour money into ads.
A junk removal website should answer the questions a customer has before they call: what you take, what you do not, which towns you cover, how a quote works and how fast they can reach you. Give the big jobs their own pages: furniture removal, appliance removal, garage and basement cleanouts, estate cleanouts, construction debris, yard waste. Give each town you serve a page only if you have something real to say about it. Google’s spam policies name doorway pages, many city pages that funnel people to the same place, as something it acts against.
Be wary of anyone who promises a spot in the results. Google’s own advice is that no one can promise a top ranking, and that an SEO who claims a special relationship with Google should be passed over. A good agency shows you its work, explains what it changes on your site and tells you how it will measure progress.
Off the screen
Your trucks, your signs and the people who send you work
A junk hauler’s best ad is often parked at a customer’s curb. A clean truck with a big, readable name and web address works every day it is on the road. Yard signs left with permission after a job, door hangers on the street where you just cleared a garage, and magnets on the tailgate all do the same thing: they put your name in front of the neighbors of a customer who just said yes.
Then there are the people who see junk every week: real estate agents getting a house ready to list, property managers turning over apartments, estate attorneys and families settling an estate, contractors with debris to clear. A short, friendly visit and a reliable first job can bring repeat work that no ad will. A good marketing plan tracks these referrals too, so you know which ones are worth your time.

Last, and most often missed: answer the phone. The best advertising in the world brings in calls and messages. If they go to voicemail, the customer calls the next hauler. If you cannot pick up while you are lifting a sofa, plan for who does.
Before you spend on ads
- Your Google Business Profile is claimed and complete
- Your website loads fast on a phone
- Every truck carries your name and web address
- You know which jobs and towns pay best
- You track where each new job came from
Questions
What haulers ask about advertising
Short answers. More on the questions page.
Is Junk Removal Advertising a marketing agency?
No. Junk Removal Advertising is an independent referral service, not a marketing agency. When you send the form, your details go to an independent marketing agency that prepares any proposal and does any work.
Does it cost anything to ask?
No. Asking for a proposal is free, and you never have to hire anyone.
How do I advertise my junk removal business?
Start with a complete Google Business Profile and a fast website, then add paid ads such as Local Services Ads or Google Ads where they fit your area. Put your name and web address on every truck and ask every customer for an honest review. See junk removal marketing for the full plan.
What is the best way to advertise junk removal?
There is no single best way. Many people look for a hauler on Google, so the listing on Google Maps and a good website come first for most companies. Paid ads can add to that once those are in place.
Can I pay Google to rank higher on the map?
No. Google says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. Paid ads are a separate product with their own rules.
Are Local Services Ads available for junk removal?
Eligibility varies by trade and area. Check for your trade and the towns you serve in Google’s Local Services Ads sign-up.
Can I offer a discount for a review?
Not for Google reviews: Google’s Maps policy bans incentives such as payment, discounts or free services in exchange for a review. Ask every customer for an honest review and offer nothing for it.
Do I keep my accounts if I leave an agency?
You should. Ask before you sign that your Google Business Profile, your Google Ads account, your website and your domain are in your name, with the agency given access. It is one of the best questions to ask in any proposal.
Should I buy junk removal leads?
Some haulers do. The key questions are whether a lead is sold to you alone or to several companies, and what counts as a lead you pay for. See junk removal leads.
What will the agency ask me?
Where you haul, how many trucks run, the jobs you want more of, what you have tried and what you can spend. The form asks the first few so the first conversation is short.

Send the form and an independent marketing agency prepares a proposal for your junk removal company. Free to ask.
